Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has ignited controversy with her recent statements suggesting that Democrats have the ability to “control the weather.”
On X, formerly Twitter, Greene proclaimed, “Yes they can control the weather. It’s ridiculous for anyone to lie and say it can’t be done,” following Hurricane Helene’s destructive path across the Southeastern U.S. after it made landfall in Florida.
In another post, Greene shared a map highlighting hurricane-affected areas alongside a political electoral map, claiming it demonstrates how the disaster could impact upcoming elections. “This is a map of hurricane affected areas with an overlay of electoral map by political party shows how hurricane devastation could affect the election,” she stated.
Greene’s comments drew widespread criticism on social media, with many users expressing disbelief at her claims. Greene has previously faced backlash over conspiracy theories and controversial statements, which led to her removal from committee positions in 2021.
Former Democratic congressional candidate Russell Foster scoffed, asking why, if weather manipulation was real, we still experience severe droughts and wildfires. “Marjorie Taylor Greene is dumb AF,” he remarked. Content creator Harry Sisson added, “You are dumber than a bag of rocks.”
Even the Republicans Against Trump account chimed in, saying, “We know you’re the dumbest member of Congress. You don’t have to remind us of it every day.”
In a lighter tone, a user joked about Greene’s reference to Trump’s infamous map alteration involving a Sharpie, while some defended her by referencing cloud seeding—a real but limited weather modification technique. One supporter remarked, “They take a tiny bit of truth (cloud seeding) and sensationalize it,” implying Greene’s claims were exaggerated.
