Mary Trump, the estranged niece and notable critic of former President Donald Trump, stated on Tuesday that Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign “terrifies” Donald to the point where he becomes incoherent.
President Joe Biden endorsed Harris on Sunday, shortly after announcing his withdrawal from the race following pressure sparked by his disastrous June 27 debate performance with Trump.
By Monday, Harris had secured enough delegates to likely become her party’s presidential nominee and Trump’s opponent in November. The former president quickly labeled Harris as “Laffin’ Kamala” upon realizing she would likely be his contender.
In a post on her Substack blog, The Good in Us, Mary Trump argued that her uncle had “admitted something this weekend that we all already knew—he hates being laughed at.” She added, “Donald also dislikes women (especially strong women) and minorities, so you can understand why current Vice President and presidential candidate Kamala Harris terrifies him to the point of incoherence.”
Mary Trump elaborated that Donald Trump had been “flailing” on Sunday and Monday to find an effective attack angle because he now faces “the reality that he is running against a vibrant, intelligent, experienced woman who is two decades younger than he is.”
“Unable to find a foothold, he continued to target Joe Biden,” Mary Trump continued. “His allies at Fox News criticized Harris’ personal life, her laughter, and even her stance on plastic straw regulation. Sean Hannity, in particular, attacked her for supporting limits on plastic straw use.”
Donald Trump, who secured his GOP presidential nomination at the Republican National Convention last week, had previously criticized Harris less frequently, choosing to focus more on Biden instead.
In the days following Biden’s exit from the race, the former president launched a series of attacks against Harris, most recently dubbing her as “Lyin’ Kamala Harris” on his Truth Social platform.
“Lyin’ Kamala Harris destroys everything she touches!” Trump posted on Tuesday.
The Harris campaign announced on Tuesday that it had surpassed $100 million in campaign funds within less than 36 hours of her candidacy announcement. This achievement came after breaking the U.S. presidential fundraising record by raising $81 million in the first 24 hours, with contributions from 1.1 million individual donors.
In addition to Biden’s support, Vice President Harris has garnered endorsements from key Democrats including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, California Governor Gavin Newsom, and many others.
