This week, over 100,000 beds have been recalled due to concerns over safety, specifically reports of breaking and collapsing during use.
On Thursday, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada announced a recall for the Lucid brand “Platform Beds with Upholstered Square Tufted Headboards.” These beds were imported from Malaysia and distributed by CVB Inc. based in Logan, Utah.
The CPSC highlighted that these beds pose injury risks as they can sag, break, or collapse when in use. They’ve received at least 245 reports of such incidents, leading to 18 injuries, including bruises and contusions. Additionally, 11 reports of bed failures have come from Canada, though no injuries were noted there.
Lucid has recalled a discontinued model of their platform beds, which were manufactured between 2019 and 2021. Despite ceasing production, these beds were still sold through major retailers until April 2024, including Amazon, Walmart, and Wayfair.
The recall specifically targets Lucid Platform Beds featuring an upholstered square tufted headboard, available in various sizes (Twin, Full, Queen, King, and Cal-King) and multiple colors. The affected models include wooden support beams and legs with a federal law label indicating “Made For: CVB INC, 1525 W 2960 S, LOGAN, UT 84321,” located on the back of the headboard.
Customers are advised to stop using the recalled beds immediately and can reach out to the company for a free replacement bed frame. As part of the recall process, customers will need to mark “recalled” on the support beams and provide photos of the bed frame, support rails, and the underside of the bed to the company.
Earlier in December 2023, the CPSC also issued a recall for the Nap Queen 12-inch Maxima Hybrid Mattress for not meeting federal flammability standards, which all mattresses sold in the U.S. must comply with to be flame-resistant for at least 30 minutes.
