Perdue Foods LLC has announced a recall of several chicken products due to potential metal contamination. The recall, which affects over 167,000 pounds of “frozen, ready-to-eat chicken breast nugget and tender products,” was detailed in a news release from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).
The affected items, produced on March 23, have been linked to consumer complaints about metal wire found in the chicken. Fortunately, the FSIS has reported no known adverse reactions, but they are urging consumers to check their freezers and discard any impacted products instead of consuming them. The recall notice also includes instructions to return the items to the place of purchase.
The products in question feature the establishment number “P-33944” on the packaging and were distributed nationwide. Consumers with questions can reach out to Perdue Consumer Care at 1-866-866-3703.
In addition to the chicken recall, several other food products have been recalled this month, including cinnamon, chocolate bars, and guacamole, due to health concerns such as listeria and undeclared allergens. For example, Metro Produce Distributors recently recalled Lunds & Byerlys fresh guacamole due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, which poses serious risks especially for vulnerable populations.
Always check your pantry and freezer for recalled items and consult sources like the FDA for the latest updates on food safety.
