Former President Donald Trump received a solid boost from a recent Fox News poll that shows him leading Democratic nominee and Vice President Kamala Harris by a slim margin. The poll reveals Trump at 50% and Harris at 49% among registered voters.
This survey, conducted from August 9 to August 12 with a sample of 1,105 registered voters and a margin of error of ±3%, indicates a close race. Notably, President Joe Biden also trailed Trump by one point in July before exiting the race after a lackluster debate.
Meanwhile, Harris has gained traction in other polls. An Ipsos survey, conducted from July 31 to August 7, has her leading Trump 42% to 40% in key swing states like Pennsylvania and Arizona, but is also within the margin of error, indicating a tight competition.
Trump’s strongest supporter demographics include men, white evangelical Christians, and rural voters. Conversely, Harris tends to perform well with women, Black voters, college graduates, and younger voters. Interestingly, she holds a 10% lead over Trump in union households, while Trump leads among military veterans by 22%.
When it comes to likability, the poll shows Harris narrowly edging out Trump, 48% to 47%. In a separate question about vice presidential candidates, Democratic Minnesota Governor Tim Walz leads Republican Senator JD Vance by 3 points.
Analyst Wagner noted that “most polls will likely show the race close,” emphasizing that turnout will be key in the upcoming election rather than persuasion.
In recent weeks, Trump and Harris have engaged in a back-and-forth exchange of words. Trump has faced criticism for mispronouncing Harris’s name and making questionable comments about her intelligence. Harris, on her part, has labeled Trump as “low energy” on the campaign trail and mocked the scale of his rallies, further branding the Trump-Vance ticket as “weird.”
