A recall of noodle cups possibly containing a dangerous allergen has raised concerns this week, impacting consumers across four states.
The FDA has flagged eggs as a lethal allergen for some individuals, categorizing this recall as a Class I risk. This is the highest risk level reserved for severe cases.
Last May, the affected products hit the market, but the issue was only discovered this year. The recall excluded products manufactured before May 20,23. These items are part of the recall:
- Year 2023: Lot codes 1623129 — 1623365
- Year 2024: Lot codes 1624001 — 1624129
No reports of consumers falling ill from the noodles have emerged.
Sun Noodle, the cup manufacturer, advises consumers to return the products to the point of purchase for a refund.
Post-recall, the company expressed regret for any inconvenience caused and reassured customers of their commitment to safety and quality.
The FDA spotlights egg among the nine major allergens that pose serious risks. Other common allergens include peanuts and shellfish.
The CDC notes that allergic reactions can range from mild symptoms like itching to severe cases such as anaphylaxis, which can be fatal.
Food recalls are prompted by concerns over potential harm, whether from dangerous bacteria or other contaminants. For instance, Publix recently recalled Green Life Farms’ Hydroponic Arugula Baby packages due to salmonella contamination.
