Attention pet owners, Spectrum Brands Pet Care has issued a recall for its Pet Fur deShedding Conditioner due to potential exposure to harmful bacteria.
According to a release from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the recalled products may contain Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which can pose health risks, especially to individuals with weakened immune systems or medical devices.
Spectrum Brands received complaints about mold growth on the conditioner containers but no illnesses or injuries have been reported as a result of this recall.
The affected pet conditioners were sold in 1-gallon bottles in the U.S., totaling around 102,000 units, and around 250 units in Canada. These products were sold by retailers like Amazon.com and Chewy.com for about $63 each between January 2022 and April 2024. Customers can identify the recalled products with UPC numbers 854460001073 and lot numbers between 220402 and 240152.
If you have purchased the recalled conditioner, stop using it immediately and contact the manufacturer for a full refund. Do not dispose of the product by pouring it down the sink or toilet.
Consumers can register their recalled products on www.prodprotect.com/recall/FURminator by marking the items as “Recalled” and submitting necessary details for a refund process.
Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections can affect various parts of the body, such as the skin, blood, and lungs, with symptoms like chills, fever, headaches, nausea, and eye pain. Preventive measures and antibiotic treatment are recommended to manage infections caused by this bacterium.
