Vice President Kamala Harris is gaining traction among Republicans as she gears up for the upcoming election, with four prominent GOP figures publicly endorsing her over Donald Trump in just a few days.
Former Arizona Senator Jeff Flake is the latest supporter to step forward, expressing his desire for a leader focused on “a new generation of leadership based not on grievances of the past, but hope for the future.” This announcement came just three days after former Kansas Senator Nancy Kassebaum declared her endorsement for Harris.
Kassebaum’s endorsement was bolstered by the support of former Kansas state senator Sandy Praeger and retired federal judge Deanell Reece Tacha. They acknowledged the tough decision to back Harris, stating, “No candidate is perfect… we fervently believe that we must do our part to try to build a brighter future.” They confidently voiced their commitment to supporting both Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.
The momentum doesn’t stop there; over 100 former Congress members and national security officials from past Republican administrations have united in their opposition to Trump, deeming him “unfit to serve again” as president. Notable signers include former Congressman Adam Kinzinger and former Homeland Security adviser Olivia Troye.
Perhaps the most striking endorsement came from ex-Wyoming Congresswoman Liz Cheney, followed closely by her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney. “In our nation’s 248-year history, there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump,” the former vice president stated, condemning Trump’s actions during the last election.
Additional GOP endorsements for Harris come from Jimmy McCain, Stephanie Grisham, and ex-Georgia Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan. A network of Republicans has also formed a “Republicans for Harris” coalition, which includes figures like John Giles, the Mayor of Mesa, and former Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel.
