An intense clash between the judge and the attorney for the defendants has sparked demands for the recusal of Judge Willis overseeing Fulton County District Assistant Fani’s RICO lawsuit against alleged members of the Young Slime Life Gang.
Judge Ural Glasnville is under scrutiny for finding attorney Brian Steel in contempt of court when Steel refused to divulge how he discovered a clandestine meeting in the judge’s chambers.
Glanville sentenced Steel to 20 days in jail after Steel attempted to file for a mistrial citing tampering with witnesses during the meeting. Doug Weinstein, another defense attorney, has called for Glanville to step down from the case.
Andrew Fleischman expressed criticism towards Glanville’s actions, suggesting that his comments warranted his removal from the YSL Case.
Willis’ office indicted Williams Kendrick and 26 others in 2022 for gang-related crimes, with the prosecution alleging Kendrick to be one of the founders of the Young Slime Life Gang, while Kendrick’s attorneys argue that YSL refers to his record label Young Stoner Life.
The use of the RICO Act in the case allows for harsher penalties for crimes committed in association with organized crime groups, a tactic Willis has previously employed successfully.
Pam Keith and Ashleigh Merchant have both called for Glanville’s recusal, emphasizing the importance of neutral and fair judges in legal proceedings.
Anthony Michael Kreis and Phil Holloway have also weighed in on the situation, with Kreis highlighting the issue of extrajudicial bias and Holloway predicting a motion for recusal in the case.
A motion for recusal would necessitate the involvement of a new judge in Georgia.
