Big news! A new city project in Solano County just got a massive green light. The organizers gathered enough signatures on Tuesday, paving the way for the project to go on the county ballot this November.
This groundbreaking initiative, spearheaded by California Forever—backed by prominent billionaires, aims to create a sustainable and eco-friendly community spread over 60,000 acres. It’s set to be one of the most walkable and environmentally conscious cities in the U.S.
Tuesday, the Solano County Registrar of Voters announced that the California Forever Plan received enough valid signatures to qualify for the November ballot, surpassing the required threshold. A sample of the petition showed 113.5% of the needed 14,369 signatures were present.
On June 25, the Solano County Registrar of Voters will make a crucial decision, either approving the city’s development or placing it on the upcoming ballot in November. They might also opt to conduct a study on potential impacts before proceeding.
Despite its promise, California Forever faces criticism. U.S. House Representative Mike Thompson expressed concerns about how it could disrupt life in Solano County, worsening traffic congestion.
CEO Jan Sramek envisions California Forever as a game-changer for the state’s future, contrasting it with the current stagnation in infrastructure development. The project aims to create a sprawling city on their 18,600 acres of land, anticipating 15,000 new jobs and up to 400,000 residents over time.
Interestingly, the project’s backers, including Lauren Powell Jobs, have committed to investing $500 million to benefit the existing Solano County community and an additional $200 million in improvements.
