Tim Walz Gains DNC Support While Kamala Harris Holds Steady: New Poll Insights

Minnesota’s Governor Tim Walz saw an increase in his approval ratings after last week’s Democratic National Convention, as per the latest data from Morning Consult.

A weekend survey revealed that 42% of registered voters view Walz favorably, up from 39% prior to the convention where he accepted his party’s vice presidential nomination in Chicago.

On the national front, Vice President Kamala Harris didn’t see a polling increase among voters despite the convention. According to Morning Consult, she still leads Donald Trump by 4 percentage points, a number unchanged from the previous week’s polling.

The latest poll, which surveyed 7,818 registered voters between August 23 and 25, shows Harris at 48% versus Trump’s 44%, with a margin of error of 1%.

Interestingly, since late July, Harris has consistently maintained a lead over Trump in daily tracking surveys, further solidifying her position as she officially accepted her nomination last Thursday. Her acceptance speech contrasted her policies with Trump’s and urged voters to “fight” for democracy and cherished ideals.

Additional polling from the Angus Reid Institute during the same timeframe (August 19-23) reported a 5-point advantage for Harris over Trump, with 47% to 42% in favor of the Vice President. A month earlier, Harris led by a slimmer margin of 2 points.

Averaging across polls since last Wednesday, Harris has maintained more than a 3-point lead, currently clocking in at 3.4 points ahead (47.1% to 43.7%), according to FiveThirtyEight’s analysis.

Finally, the Democratic convention also outperformed the Republican National Convention in viewership. Nielsen reported that around 21.8 million viewers watched the Democratic convention over its four nights, contrasting with the RNC’s average of just over 19 million viewers during their event.
