Recent data from the National Weather Service (NWS) indicates a heightened risk of tornadoes and severe weather in Milwaukee during the Republican National Convention (RNC) on Monday.
The RNC is scheduled to occur at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee from July 15 to 18 with former President Donald Trump anticipated to be selected as the party’s nominee for the 2024 election. Trump is also expected to reveal his vice-presidential running mate at or just before the RNC.
Despite an alleged assassination attempt over the weekend resulting in a minor injury to Trump, he arrived at the RNC on Sunday night, opting not to delay his trip. Storms may disrupt the event, with meteorologists warning of severe weather potential late Monday afternoon through the evening, coinciding with various RNC activities.
“A few storms may become strong to severe,” as outlined in the hazardous weather outlook by NWS. The forecast predicts the likelihood of severe thunderstorms with damaging wind, hail, possible tornadoes, and heavy rainfall in southern Wisconsin.
The storms are anticipated to commence between 4 to 6 p.m. local time, peak from 6 to 10 p.m., and taper off between 9 p.m. and midnight. Fortunately, no hazardous weather conditions are expected for the remainder of the convention week.
The highest storm intensity is forecasted near the Illinois border, including Milwaukee, listed among Wisconsin cities facing a higher risk of severe weather. NWS Milwaukee office indicated potential threats with varying risks for tornadoes, damaging winds, hail, and flooding.
Key events lined up during the stormy period include official sessions, the convention fest, lawyers’ reception, Veteran Candidate Mixer and Fundraiser, American Global Strategies Reception, and more, as reported by USA Today.
