Former President Donald Trump recently launched a verbal attack on Liz Cheney, labeling her as “one of the dumber people in politics.” This comes as the ex-Congresswoman endorses Vice President Kamala Harris in her bid for the Democratic nomination ahead of the November elections.
Cheney, who previously served Wyoming’s at-large congressional district, has been critical of Trump since her time in office, notably during her involvement in the January 6 House committee that investigated the Capitol riots led by Trump supporters. The committee ultimately suggested a criminal probe into Trump’s behavior surrounding the incident.
Trump’s disdain for Cheney has deep roots; she lost her re-election in 2022 to a Republican who was supported by Trump. In a Truth Social post on Friday, Trump not only targeted Cheney but also her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, who has also backed Harris.
In his post, Trump questioned Cheney’s intelligence: “Has Liz Cheney… ever looked at the horrible statements she’s made about Lyin’ Kamala Harris?” He continued, criticizing their views, stating that they sharply contrast with those of Harris and implying that Cheney appears even less intelligent than he previously thought—while still maintaining that Harris is worse.
Harris has attracted support from over 100 former Republican Congress members and national security officials who deem Trump “unfit” for another term. Dick Cheney described Trump as “a greater threat to our republic” in his endorsement of Harris.
During a Midwest campaign stop this week with Harris, Liz Cheney received a warm welcome in Wisconsin, where supporters chanted, “Thank you, Liz.” While speaking, she threw a playful jab at Trump, noting her long-standing Republican identity: “I was a Republican even before Donald Trump started spray-tanning.”
This comment didn’t sit well with Trump, who later called Cheney “pathetic” and suggested she has a “low IQ” in a follow-up social media post. He also criticized her father’s involvement in Middle Eastern conflicts, emphasizing that their endorsements of Harris signify their disconnect from Republican values and their support for a candidate he deems extremely liberal, claiming she’s further left than notable figures like Elizabeth Warren or Bernie Sanders.
