Former President Donald Trump has received a significant boost in his campaign for the presidency, according to a recent Rasmussen Reports poll. The survey shows Trump leading Vice President Kamala Harris by 5 percentage points in North Carolina, with 51% of likely voters supporting him compared to Harris’s 46%.
Conducted from October 9 to 14 and featuring responses from 1,042 individuals, the poll highlights the importance of North Carolina as a potential tipping-point state as Election Day approaches. This matchup is considered one of the closest races this election season.
The economy emerged as the primary concern for voters, with border security and abortion following closely behind when deciding their choice for president.
Additionally, when voters were asked to identify the most pressing issue for the next president to tackle, immigration ranked highest at 29%, followed by rising prices (24%), protecting democracy (23%), and abortion rights (22%). Notably, 70% of respondents expressed a desire for significant change from the next administration, with 77% indicating their choice is based on supporting their preferred candidate rather than preventing the other from winning.
According to FiveThirtyEight’s tracking, Trump holds a slim lead in statewide polls across North Carolina, averaging 48.2% to Harris’s 47.3%. However, it’s worth noting that other recent polls, such as one from The Wall Street Journal, showed a much tighter race, with candidates tied in a head-to-head scenario.
As the election nears, North Carolina remains a key state to watch, categorized as a “toss-up” alongside other competitive states like Arizona, Georgia, and Pennsylvania.
