Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill recently opened up about his emotional state following a controversial police detainment just hours before the team’s season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
In an interview with CNN’s Kaitlan Collins on The Source, Hill shared his feelings of shock and embarrassment regarding the incident. “I wasn’t doing anything wrong. I was just chilling, following the rules. I have injuries, so I wasn’t speeding or causing trouble. I’m still kinda shell-shocked from it,” he said, alongside his attorney Julius Collins.
The detainment took place near Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens and involved Miami-Dade police briefly handcuffing Hill for what the Dolphins described as a “traffic incident.” Disturbing videos that surfaced online showed Hill lying face down while officers restrained him, raising significant concern from fans and teammates alike.
Despite this pregame upheaval, Hill was able to join his teammates, and the Dolphins clinched a 20-17 victory over the Jaguars, with Hill being instrumental in the win.
Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, described the police stop as “surreal” and “traumatic” and mentioned plans to look into the matter further without making any explicit accusations against the police.
In the past, Hill faced legal issues, including a guilty plea in 2014 for domestic assault involving his then-pregnant girlfriend and a police investigation in 2019 regarding a battery incident with his son, although he faced no discipline in that case.
As a key player for the Dolphins, Hill is now focused on putting the detainment behind him and continuing to contribute to his team’s success as he enters his third season with Miami.
