Members of the “White Dudes for Harris” campaign have reacted to Donald Trump’s recent jabs about them during the Al Smith dinner in New York City, an event designed to raise funds for Catholic charities.
At this gala, Trump made a number of light-hearted digs at Democratic leaders, including a remark targeting the White Dudes for Harris group. Trump quipped, “There’s a group called ‘White Dudes for Harris’ but I’m not worried about them at all, because their wives and their wives’ lovers are all voting for me,” according to his comments.
Tim Fullerton, one of the group’s organizers, didn’t hold back in his response, saying, “I’m one of the White Dudes for Harris organizers. My wife would rather eat glass for a month than vote for that guy,” he posted on X.
Another organizer, Ross Morales Rocketto, commented, “Still plenty of time for persuasion conversations.”
The White Dudes for Harris initiative is part of a broader movement inspired by groups like Black men, Black women, and White women for Harris. Recently, the organization hosted a Zoom call that attracted various celebrities and raised over $4 million for Harris’s 2024 campaign.
While Vice President Harris was campaigning in Wisconsin and couldn’t attend the dinner, she made an appearance via video alongside comedian Molly Shannon in a sketch referencing her character from Saturday Night Live.
During his speech, Trump made several jokes about Harris’s absence and questioned President Biden’s mental acuity. He remarked, “If the Democrats really wanted someone not here tonight, they would have sent Joe Biden,” and further criticized Biden’s ability to communicate.
In a more controversial moment, Trump alluded to the personal life of Harris’ husband, Doug Emhoff, referencing past relationships in a distasteful joke. “The only piece of advice I would give her if she wins is not to let her husband Doug anywhere near the nannies,” he said, which drew mixed reactions from the audience.
There was laughter aimed at Trump as well, with comedian Jim Gaffigan poking fun at him for his claims regarding migrants, linking it humorously to past controversial statements made by Trump.
