Dogs are known for their adventurous spirits, and one pup’s recent ocean escapade has caught everyone’s attention. A TikTok video shared by David López Enguídanos (@davidlopeze) showcases a remarkable moment in Alicante, Spain, where a dog jumps into the sea, attempting to swim after a shark.
The clip quickly garnered over 10 million views and 572,000 likes, with the caption reading “dog vs. shark.” As the drama unfolded, onlookers can be heard yelling “no” in disbelief as the fearless dog nudged closer to what appeared to be a blue shark. At one point, the curious canine even tried to nibble at the shark’s tail before reconsidering.
Fortunately for our four-legged friend, the shark wasn’t interested in a game of chase, opting to swim away, while the dog paddled back to safety. No harm done!

Blue sharks primarily feast on fish, squid, and crustaceans, so the dog wasn’t on their menu. Although typically not aggressive, they have occasionally been involved in unprovoked human attacks, according to Encyclopaedia Britannica. Blue sharks can reach lengths between 5.6 and 13.1 feet and live around 15 years in the wild.
Given the presence of wild animals and sensitive environments along coastlines, it’s crucial for pet owners to closely monitor their dogs. The American Kennel Club (AKC) advises that even well-behaved dogs need supervision near water. Hidden dangers, such as jellyfish and stingrays, can pose risks even when no large fins are spotted.
The AKC also recommends that any dog off-leash near the ocean should have a solid recall and be easily controlled with hand signals or verbal cues. If they’re still learning, it’s safer to keep them on a leash.
