Internet users were horrified when pictures surfaced of a woman who returned from her basement only to discover she was unwittingly hosting a hitchhiker in her hair.
Lyndsay and Josh, a couple from New York, found themselves in an unexpected situation when a spider had unexpectedly made itself at home in Lyndsay’s hair.
Josh shared a photo on Reddit, revealing Lyndsay with what appeared to be an unusual hair accessory — a brown and yellow webbed spider. Upon closer inspection, it was not a clip but the spider’s legs. Lyndsay calmly placed it on the countertop to gauge its size.
Apparently, the spider had hitched a ride on Lyndsay’s head while she was in the unfinished basement doing laundry, a unnerving surprise for her.
After feeling something moving in her hair and seeing the spider in her bathroom mirror, Lyndsay understandably panicked but managed to calm down, showing bravery in the face of fear.
It turns out the spider, known as a fishing spider, is not a venomous threat despite its intimidating appearance. It’s among the vast array of spider species that are harmless to humans.
A survey conducted by YouGov in 2022 revealed that 25% of Americans fear spiders, with over half admitting to being very afraid of them. This fear, known as arachnophobia, affects 3-15% of the US population, causing physical symptoms like sweating, shaking, and difficulty breathing.
Treatment options for arachnophobia include exposure therapy and cognitive behavioral treatment (CBT).
Josh commended Lyndsay for her bravery in the situation.
Josh’s Reddit post garnered over 7,000 likes and numerous comments, with many lauding Lyndsay’s composed reaction to the unusual incident.
Despite the shock, users found humor in the situation, with some suggesting extreme measures like burning the house down jokingly.
