Curious about what your friends actually do for work but feel too shy to ask? You’re not alone! One group of friends found a fun and engaging way to figure it out, and the internet is loving it.
TikTok user Casandra Suarez (@cashmula209), a licensed clinical social worker from San Diego, shared a hilarious video of her friends hosting a “career night.” Each person took turns presenting about their job roles, daily tasks, and even answered questions in a fun, interactive format.
This creative approach has grabbed the attention of many on social media, quickly racking up over 2.5 million views and 224,900 likes. Viewers are especially reminded of Chandler Bing from the show Friends, where the mystery of his job became a running joke.
“People were surprised that they didn’t know what their friends did for a living,” Casandra reported, noting her diverse group of friends.
A YouGov poll indicates that while 57% of Americans are satisfied with their jobs, 12% are looking to make a change. Despite the search for meaningful work, one in five Americans feels their job lacks purpose, as reported in a 2021 survey.
Interestingly, 55% of respondents believe their work contributes positively to the world; fields like healthcare, education, and legal services topped the list for providing a sense of societal contribution. Conversely, jobs in hospitality and wholesale trade scored low on meaningfulness, with 37% and 44% of Americans feeling they don’t contribute lasting value.
Still, many find fulfillment in their roles—42% of those deeming their work insignificant report feeling satisfied with it nonetheless.
What’s the TikTok Buzz?
Cassandra jokingly admitted she still struggles to grasp what her friends’ jobs entail, yet the ingenuity of their idea has captured widespread admiration online.
The viral video has generated over 1,500 comments, with viewers laughing at various presentations and likening it to the antics of Chandler Bing.
One user wrote, “I love this! All the Chandler Bing jobs unite.” Another chimed in with, “This is so Chandler Bing of y’all.” Some even reflected on their own situations, with comments like, “I have no idea what my friends do,” and “I couldn’t participate because I can’t explain my own job!”
