There’s been some drama between Amanda Knox and ex-White House Correspondent, Simon Ateba. Knox accused Ateba of spreading “misinformation” after they clashed online.
The spark started when Ateba shared a video of Knox following her recent court loss in Italy. The Florence court ruled that Knox had slandered Patrick Lumumba by falsely accusing him of killing her roommate, Meredith Kercher.
Living together at the time, Knox and Kercher were roommates in Perugia. Knox, who spent four years in an Italian prison for the crime, was ultimately cleared of the murder charges in 2015.
In a twist of events, Knox, who was only 20 years old at the time, admitted to slandering Lumumba during police interrogation. This admission led to her conviction for slander in 2007, which was later overturned in 2023 but reconvicted last week.
In response to the video Ateba posted of her, Knox addressed reporters, portraying herself as a victim coerced by the Italian Police into making false accusations against Lumumba.
Ateba, on the other hand, shared a snippet of Knox’s interview where she acknowledged her past actions but portrayed herself as a victim of circumstance. Knox fired back at Ateba, questioning his professionalism for spreading what she deemed false information.
Simon Ateba: The Background Story
Ateba rose to fame in 2022 for accusing White House Press Secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, of discrimination. His clash with Jean-Pierre dates back to between 2020-2022, culminating in the White House Correspondents Association allegedly refusing to renew his membership.
Ateba’s narrative unfolded further on Fox News, where he claimed a conspiracy to silence him for asking probing questions. This incident marked a tumultuous period for Ateba vis-a-vis the White House Press Secretary.
The Mystery of Meredith Kercher’s Murder
The murder of Meredith Kercher remains a haunting tale with multiple twists. Rudy Guede was convicted in 2008 for Kercher’s murder but was released in 2021. Initially arrested along with Knox and Raffaele Sollecito, Guede’s DNA ultimately linked him to the crime.
In a turn of events, the Court of Cassation in Italy later exonerated Knox and Sollecito of the murder charges. Knox delved into her side of the story with a book titled “The Story: The Waiting Game to Heard”. Also, a documentary named “Amanda Knox” was released in 2016, shedding light on the intricate case.
