Let’s talk about recent events in eastern Ukraine, where Russia is seen advancing while Kyiv’s forces note a surge in fighting intensity in the Donetsk region.
The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) has been tracking these movements. They reported that Russian troops have been making progress near Siversk, a small town close to Bakhmut, and are pushing towards the city. Geolocated footage shared on Telegram shows Russian forces west of Rozdolivka, south of Siversk.
The ISW’s map, updated on Monday, spotlights key conflict zones in Donetsk highlighted in the last 24 hours. This includes areas like Novopokrovske, captured by Russian troops, and Maksymilian Ivka, which fell to Russia last week.
Recent moves by Moscow’s troops toward Chasiv Yar, just ten miles west of Bakhmut, have also been noted by the ISW. Footage from last week shows Russian advances near Kalynivka, north of Chasiv Yar.
Reports from Lieutenant Colonel Nazar Voloshyn of Kyiv’s Khortytsia Group of Forces discussed the increased intensity of Russian assaults near Chasiv Yar. These assaults focused on villages like Klishchiivka and Andriivka.
Current fighting near Chasiv Yar involves Russian forces and has spread north and southwest, according to ISW. However, claims of Moscow’s 200th Motorized Rifle Brigade advancing towards the Siverskyi-Donets Donbas Canal lack visual evidence as per ISW.
Additional advancements by Russia near Avdiivka, Sokil, and Umanske were also reported by ISW. Battle activities continued to the north and west of Donetsk into Monday.
Russian forces reportedly moved west of Donetsk City on June 17, an action not confirmed by changes in the front lines. Russian milbloggers claimed such advancements, saying Moscow advanced along the front lines in Krasnohorivka, west of Donetsk.
Recent updates by Ukraine’s Armed Forces on Facebook highlighted the most intense clashes in the Pokrovsk direction, about 43 miles southwest of Chasiv Yar. Kyiv reported repelling 32 of Moscow’s 42 attacks in the region on Monday.
The enemy persistently tests Ukrainian defenses, aiming to find weak points and breach the front lines, as indicated in the update.
