A Kremlin propagandist has publicly discussed which European cities might be at risk of Russian nuclear missile attacks, singling out the U.K. as the most susceptible to such strikes.
Yevgeny Popov, a prominent figure on Russian state television, has been vocal in his threats against Western nations for their support of Ukraine in opposing Russian President Vladimir Putin’s actions.
While these aggressive statements often mention missile strikes on European capitals, it is unclear how closely these remarks align with official Kremlin strategies.
In a clip shared by Ukrainian adviser Anton Gerashchenko, Deputy Popov accused the U.S. of escalating tensions in Europe, leading to the risk of a catastrophic global conflict.
Standing before a map of Europe, Popov claimed that U.S. missile deployments posed grave threats to Russia, with cities like St. Petersburg, Kazan, and Moscow potentially in the strike zone.
Referring to the dismantling of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty by the U.S. in 2019, Popov warned of potential retaliation if the White House pursued their aggressive stance.
Highlighting the vulnerability of European capitals if Russian missiles were positioned in Kaliningrad, Popov mentioned Berlin, Warsaw, Paris, Bucharest, and Prague as potential targets, along with American bases in Germany.
Popov further warned of Russia’s readiness to engage with the U.K., emphasizing London’s exposure to missile threats, as well as other British cities and infrastructure.
“Britain is highly vulnerable. Three missiles could bring down their civilization,” Popov stressed, echoing the alarming sentiments broadcasted on Russian state TV.
Gerashchenko’s tweet accompanying the video urged the EU and U.K. to take note of the controversial discussions on Russian television about potential nuclear strikes on European soil.
