Ukraine has reported a successful strike on a fuel warehouse used by the Russian military in the Luhansk region. The city of Rovenky, partially occupied by Russia, became the site of fiery aftermath as locals shared videos showcasing the impact of the attack.
According to Ukraine’s General Staff, this operation targeted a depot storing vital oil and fuel for the Russian army. This region is one of four that Russia’s President Putin has claimed to have annexed, yet full control remains out of reach.
The General Staff announced that this depot was previously targeted, highlighting Ukraine’s persistent efforts to undermine Russian military supply lines. While specific munitions used were not disclosed, reports suggest kamikaze drones may have been involved in the strike, as videos show flames engulfing the facility.
Journalist Tim White remarked on X about the significance of these strikes, stating, “The nearer the strikes to the frontline, the bigger #Russia’s problem.”
Euromaidan Press noted that this depot is strategically important for Russian military operations, making it a prime target. Ukraine’s campaign involving drones and missiles continues as they aim to weaken Vladimir Putin’s military capabilities.
A separate strike earlier this month targeted Crimea’s largest oil terminal, producing smoke visible from space and causing fuel shortages on the peninsula, forcing Russian forces to establish mobile fuel stations, according to reports from the partisan group ATESH.
Local news sources highlighted that once ignited, fires at such depots can take days to extinguish, significantly affecting the operational capacity of Russian troops in the region.
